CAPTAIN BILLY SUNDAY’s PIRATE RADIO PODCAST

DaftPunk

When ‘YE TUDDA sampled Daft Punk for his song ‘Stronger’ everyone lost their mind and said that rap music was moving in the wrong direction. It was the apocalypse for Hip-Hop. Heaven would come crashing down now that electronic dance music was being used to make rap records. Hello! Hip-Hop’s origins ARE the sampling of dance music. Plus these French niggas from Daft Punk got a little soul with their shit. Peep game…

DAFT PUNK – ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’

When I listen to some cats rip it with dance music and that talk box vocoder shit I think of my man ROGER TROUTMAN and the band that he formed with his brothers called ZAPP. Now who is gonna tell me that dance music isn’t totally part of the DNA of rap music? Respect the architects.

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Dancefloor’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Cutie Pie’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Do Wa Ditty’

ROGER TROUTMAN & ZAPP – ‘Computer Love’

The usage of “I Wanna Be Your Man” in the scene with the farmers daughter in “Pootie Tang” was just excellent movie scoring…

Also the usage of “Computer Love” with Kane meeting Ileana in “Menace II Society” another great cinematic moment sponsored by Roger Troutman…

^^^ Co-Siggity.. Zapp and Roger are part of the Westcoast Blue Print. Yo big up Billy for posting this. I love me some Roger [||]. I also dont think TPain is that bad he is filling unfullfilled lane. Plus his music makes the ladys dance

I don’t know much about zapp except a few soundbites and what Nas spit on Blunt Ashes (in my opinion the coldest record on that album) that one of them killed on of his brothers…i dunno speak on it.

The Daft Punk song samples an old funk number by Edwin Birdsong, “Cola Bottle Baby”. So I guess it has a lot more in common with most hip hop sample sources than might be immediately apparent.

    AWESOME PODCAST!!!

And once again Dallas Penn shows he knows more about music, the history of hip-hop and common sense than so many so-called “hip-hop” writers.

    DALLAS PENN STAYS WINNING!!!

  9. Dj RaYz says:

I think Kanye should bring Daft Punk on stage when he performs his song. How crazy would it be for Daft Punk to be doing their sample to the live beat and Kanye spittin? I probably wouldn’t have enough money to see the concert, but it would be worth You Tubing!

  10. Tiffany says:

That Daft Punk remix on Ye’s album is the bomb. After listening to his version, I stayed on the treadmill an extra 10 minutes doing it “harder, better, faster, stronger”.

    Ha!
    Much respect.

  11. Thorsten says:

Daft Punk is influenced by Hip Hop as well as by any other music with soul. Just check the liner notes of their first album “Homework” where they state for example Bay Area producer Ant Banks as one of their influences.
